Travel with Life Action

A gap year tour for college-age musicians, vocalists, media techs, and ministry-minded young adults—designed to grow disciples and develop skills while serving the local church.

Take a Gap Year that Changes Everything

If you’re a college-age musician, vocalist, media tech, or ministry-minded young adult, Life Action offers a one-of-a-kind journey. Join a team that travels the country serving churches, sharing the hope of Jesus, and growing in faith—all while gaining hands-on experience and lifelong friendships.

Why Travel with Life Action?

Life Action’s traveling teams are made up of passionate young adults—musicians, worship leaders, media and tech creatives, children’s ministers, speakers, and more—who want to use their gifts to serve the Church and seek revival across America.

This isn’t just a ministry opportunity. It’s a deep dive into discipleship, leadership, and life in Christ-centered community. As a team member, you’ll:

  • Grow in your walk with Jesus through daily rhythms of worship, teaching, and mentoring.

  • Build lifelong friendships in a close-knit, family-style team.

  • Develop your God-given talents through hands-on experience and professional training.

  • Serve churches around the country with purpose, passion, and excellence.

Training + Equipping for Real-World Ministry

From your very first week at Life Action in Michigan, we’ll equip you with the tools and training you need to thrive. You’ll spend six weeks in hands-on sessions tailored to your role—whether you’re mixing sound, leading worship, working with kids, or managing team logistics.

Then, you’ll hit the road—traveling from church to church, putting your skills to work while being mentored and supported every step of the way. At the end of the tour, you’ll wrap up with a powerful season of ministry at Life Action’s Family Camp.

You’ll finish the year with more confidence, stronger character, deeper faith, and clearer purpose.

Discipleship that Goes Deep

Life on the road isn’t just about the work—it’s about transformation. You’ll be part of a close-knit team of 20+ young adults and two Life Action families, living, traveling, serving, and growing together in community. You’ll share real life—meals, ministry, prayer, laughter, and even the hard moments that God uses to refine and shape us.

You won’t walk this journey alone. Through intentional team meetings, personal discipleship, and one-on-one mentoring, you’ll be encouraged and challenged to pursue a deeper relationship with Jesus. As you serve side-by-side with others who are also chasing after God, you’ll build friendships that are honest, lasting, and rooted in Christ. This is a season of growth that will strengthen your character, stretch your faith, and deepen your love for God and people in ways you never expected.

Cost + Support Raising

This journey is faith-based in every way—including finances. As a team member, you’ll raise $3,500 to cover your year on the road. This includes:

  • Training & ministry supplies

  • Lodging & meals

  • Books, resources, and travel costs

We also recommend raising a small personal fund for your own needs throughout the year.

Sound like a big leap? It is. But God has provided for every team member for over 50 years—and He’s not stopping now.

Raising support is part of the mission: it gives you a chance to share your vision, involve others, and witness God’s faithfulness in powerful ways.

    Frequently
    Asked
    Questions

How old do I have to be to become a team member?
All team members must be at least 18 and have graduated high school. Traveling with Life Action is a big opportunity—and a big responsibility. As part of the team, you’ll be in the spotlight, serving people of all ages and representing Christ wherever you go. That’s why we’re looking for young adults who are ready to grow in maturity, live with purpose, and reflect Jesus in everything they do.
    Where do the teams go?

Life Action is a non-denominational ministry that goes wherever doors are open to the gospel. From small-town churches to large city congregations, we travel across the U.S.—and even occasionally overseas—to preach the truth of God’s Word and call people to a deeper walk with Jesus. No matter the location, our mission stays the same: to spark spiritual renewal and see lives transformed. Curious where we’ve been? Check out the full list of Life Action events here.

How many team members are on each team?

The number of team members varies from team to team. The average team has 17 – 20 team members on it.

Where do the team members stay?
One of the most unique and unforgettable parts of traveling with Life Action is staying in homes across the country. It’s more than just a place to sleep—it’s a chance to build meaningful connections, hear incredible stories, and invest in the lives of people you’d probably never meet otherwise. You won’t just be serving churches—you’ll be welcomed into homes, loved like family, and reminded that ministry happens around the dinner table, too.
How many months out of the year do the teams travel?

Your journey with Life Action starts with about six weeks of hands-on training designed to equip you spiritually, personally, and practically. After that, you’ll hit the road with your team for around nine months, traveling across the country to serve churches and share the message of revival. When the tour wraps up, most team members return to Buchanan, MI, to help lead our Family Camps—a powerful and rewarding way to close out the season.

Do the teams have any “down time”?
Yes, the team definitely gets some quality downtime! Between and during each event, you’ll have days off to relax, explore, and recharge. One of the coolest parts of traveling is discovering incredible places along the way. It’s not just about ministry; it’s also about adventure, making memories, and enjoying the journey together.
Where do the team members train in the summer?

The teams train at our Life Action Camp in Buchanan, MI. This beautiful lakefront property is located in Southwest Michigan, about 25 minutes north of South Bend, IN.

What do the teams travel in?
Let’s talk vehicles—because they’re kind of a big deal when you live on the road. Each team rolls with a box truck that carries all the sound gear, ministry materials, and personal luggage. Meanwhile, team members travel in a comfy bus. Believe it or not, travel days often turn into some of the most fun and relaxing parts of the week—filled with music, laughter, naps, deep convos, and plenty of snacks. It’s all part of the journey!
    Do I need car insurance?
While we don’t require team members to have car insurance, we highly recommend it. At each Summit, the host church often provides vehicles for the team to use during the week. However, if you don’t have your own insurance, you won’t be able to drive them. Having coverage gives you more freedom and flexibility on the road.
What music style do the teams use?
We believe music is more than just sound—it’s a way to glorify God. Whether we’re leading a full congregation or sharing a quiet moment in worship, our goal is to create an atmosphere that points people to Jesus. Every song, every note, and every moment on stage is designed to shift the spotlight to Him and clearly communicate the truth of His Word.
Can I travel more than one year?
Yes, you can travel for more than one year—and honestly, the second year can be even better. Your first year is full of learning: how to travel, how to serve, and how to grow in new ways. But if you come back for another year, you’re not starting from scratch—you already know the rhythm of life on the road. That gives you the chance to go even deeper in your walk with God, take on more leadership, and invest in others the way someone once invested in you. It’s a chance to keep growing—and help others do the same.
