One of the great mysteries of God is that He meets with us. This has happened since the beginning of time, as God walked with Adam and Eve in the cool of the day in the Garden He had created for them.
Until they chose to go their own way, they enjoyed unhindered, intimate communion with Him.
Throughout History
Fast forward to Moses, as he led God’s people out of Egypt into the Promised Land. God designed a place where He would communicate with His people, a “tent of meeting.”
“It shall be a continual burnt offering throughout your generations at the doorway of the tent of meeting before the LORD, where I will meet with you, to speak to you there. I will meet there with the sons of Israel, and it shall be consecrated by My glory. I will consecrate the tent of meeting and the altar; I will also consecrate Aaron and his sons to minister as priests to Me. I will dwell among the sons of Israel and will be their God. They shall know that I am the LORD their God who brought them out of the land of Egypt, that I might dwell among them; I am the LORD their God” (Exodus 29:42-26 NASB).
There was a specific way they were to approach God—a way that included a sacrifice for their sins. This pictured the once-for-all sacrifice that would one day be provided by the blood of Christ, who would take away our sins and make continual access to God possible.
The Open Door
But the most amazing thing is this: God longs to meet with us. He has always provided a way for us to meet with Him. Apparently God is interested in intimate communion with us.
Which means, He is interested in intimate, ongoing communion with YOU.
To ignore this is to miss the great truth of the Bible and to forfeit the most profound opportunity of your life. Think of the millions of God’s created men and women who never know this. Or, worse yet, who know this, but through their inflated egos choose to give God no time or attention.
Unceasing Prayer
God’s plan now includes the possibility and invitation to unceasing communion with Him through prayer. We can enter at any moment, if we come through Christ, into the Throne Room of heaven, shut the door, and talk with God. We are not only encouraged to do this, we are commanded to do it!
This is not merely for “getting things done,” but for sweet, restful, unhurried communion with the God who loves us unconditionally. Time in His presence is designed to “conform us to the image of His Son.”
The more time we spend with Him, the more we know His heart and become like Him. The more our heart is at rest and we see life from His exalted view.
Surely this reminder in Scripture should bring us back to Him, for the one who prays has found the greatest joy of heaven and earth.
No voice but Thine can give me rest,
And bid my fears depart;
No love but Thine can make me blessed,
And satisfy my heart.
(William Cowper)
Father, forgive me for ignoring You so often. I am so grateful that You make Yourself available to me through Your Son’s sacrifice. That I can commune with You, hearing Your instructions and knowing Your heart, is my greatest privilege. Teach me today how to pray without ceasing; to never leave this blessed place of intimacy. For to know You is my highest privilege and greatest joy.
I have found this to be true. Just recently the Lord is showing me to work on my “disciplines”. I know that for the most part I live a disciplined life. I needed to make, however, an appointed time to spend with Him each day. I have been waking up earlier and spending time with my Heavenly Father before I eat breakfast. I am aware of His presence as I read through His Word. Prioritizing is essential to spending quality time with the Lord. He desires for us to put Him first place in our lives. “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you” Mt. 6:33
This is the most beautiful message from our Lord God. Thank you
There is no greater joy than knowing and living out that I am His and He is mine!
