There is one thing that every believer needs—encouragement from other believers. You need it too.
You need to give it, and you need to receive it. But how, and when?
The when is generally obvious to us. If we are walking with God, He helps us recognize, by the Holy Spirit awakening our sensitivity, when a brother or sister needs help.
What we must not do in these moments is delay. Though we may intend to come back and help later, the need is now … and so should the help be.
Intent to help does nothing to move another out of discouragement. Encouragers are watchful and responsive.
We must remember that our spiritual leaders need encouragement too. The maturity that has qualified them for leadership in the church has not immunized them from discouragement or fatigue. They always need our prayers. From time to time, they need to receive our encouragement as well.
Say yes to God by praying for your pastor today; and as you do, ask God if there is some way He wants you to encourage him.
Encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.
(1 Thessalonians 5:11 ESV)
