Being on the receiving end of humility is a delightful thing. We get the best seat, the first helping, the power of decision.

We are the served rather than the server, the voice rather than the ear. We get to go first.

But none of us should settle in on the receiving end of humility. “All of you,” says Scripture, are to clothe yourself with humility.

Meaning, we should all go to the giving end. Take the lesser place, the smaller portion. Be the servant. Listen. Go last.

Like Jesus did.

Clothe yourselves, all of you,
with humility toward one another,
for “God opposes the proud
but gives grace to the humble.”
