Achan spoke it before he was executed. David displayed it or he would probably have lost his throne. If Ananias and Sapphira had been wiser, they could have saved their lives by it.
What is it? Honesty.
God wants His people to be honest. Even the smallest deception displeases Him. “A false balance is an abomination to the LORD, but a just weight is his delight” (Proverbs 11:1 ESV). For our hearts to be right, we need to keep our thumb off the scale. Not even an ounce or a dollar or a detail should be added or deducted from the truth.
It’s time to be honest about your honesty. Have you gotten into the habit of editing facts, or even telling outright falsehoods?
You should know that the line of dishonesty is always moving; your compromises will become more costly, and your dependency on lies will grow.
Your integrity shrinks. Honesty, on the other hand, is fixed. Secure. Reliable.
Which person do you want to be?
Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD,
but those who act faithfully are his delight.
(Proverbs 12:22)
